Famous Musical Duos
There is much debate among Moon Theory fans as to whether this act could be considered as a full, proper band, seeing as it only had two members. We at moontheory.net believe both definitions are correct, they were indeed a musical duo, but they also can be considered a band, especially if we take into account the fact that Nine Inch Nails for instance, which has only one official member, is still deemed as an actual band. As a matter of fact, there are many a musical duo that most people think have more members (not counting studio or live musicians) while others have based their entire popularity on that fact alone. Arguably the most famous duet to fall into that category is the White Stripes.
Even though many people are under the impression that Jack White (guitars, vocals, keyboards) and Meg White (drums, percussion) are a brother and sister musical duo, the fact of the matter is that they are a divorced couple. Either way, this dysfunctional family gimmick is undoubtedly responsible for much of their notoriety. All in all you have to give them credit for sticking together after their marriage, and not break up the musical duo as well, like Richard and Linda Thompson did. Richard Thompson is a British folk rock singer, songwriter and guitar player. In 1972 he married British singer Linda Peters, and together this musical duo recorded six albums, the last of which, Shoot Out The Lights, provided an appropriate coda for their relationship with final track Wall Of Death. On stage tensions proved to be too much for the musical duo, which ended shortly after the marriage did.
However, not every boy/girl musical duo is living proof that men are indeed from Mars and women from Venus. Swedish duet Roxette is evidence of quite the opposite. Consisting of Marie Fredriksson and Per Gessle, this a band that while not as big as they used to be in the late eighties and early to mid nineties, surely has stood the test of time, with their hits still receiving major airplay worldwide, especially their four US number one singles The Look, Listen to Your Heart, Joyride and It Must Have Been Love (from the Pretty Woman Original Soundtrack). Other songs are still very popular, such as Dangerous and Dressed For Success. Throughout their twenty plus year career, this musical duo hasn't had any public fallouts, and have only taken a hiatus when Fredriksson was diagnosed with a brain tumor, which was later successfully removed.
Being supporters of Moon Theory, moontheory.net can do no less than to respect and admire other musical duos who have made a name for themselves, especially when it comes to that tricky combination of female singer/male instrumentalist.
